Several weeks ago, Walter Isaacson, the author of last year’s remarkable biography of Steve Jobs, asked if he could write about Jobs one more time—for Harvard Business Review. Jobs’s death, last October, unleashed a great wave of columns and articles about the meaning of the Apple CEO’s life and work. But in Walter’s view, a lot of that analysis was off the mark. In a graceful, compelling essay in this issue, he outlines what he considers to be the true leadership lessons of Steve Jobs’s career.

A version of this article appeared in the April 2012 issue of Harvard Business Review.
